Why won't my dog eat but drinks water after pyometra ruled out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 2 months old | 13 lbs

I have a 3y/o Lhasa Apso. She hasn’t eaten in abt a week bt she’ll drink water. I took her to the e-vet and they told me she may have pyometra, even tho they didn’t do an X-ray. Her blood work came back as her being anemic(possibly from stress), her white blood cell count was a lil up but other than that she was good. kidneys n liver were fine. I took her to her normal vet yesterday and they did an X-ray. The DR saw nothing that jumped out that looked like pyometra. Any idea whts wrong?

It's good to know that the blood work looked fairly good, because this helps rule-out a systemic disease as the cause. There still could be another organ system that is affected, but I would be suspicious that the lack of appetite has to do with a primary gastrointestinal problem. It's very difficult to know without evaluating Minnie and knowing her full medical history, so I could definitely be mistaken. I would hope that your vet has advised further testing to find out the diagnosis. This would be the best way for finding out the cause of this. I hope that helps and Minnie gets better soon.
