My dog ate winter rock salt. He's whining. What should I do next?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 80 lbs

my mom thinks that my dog loki may have ate a tiny bit of winter rock salt that got brought in by shoes. since then hes been whining. ive put him outside a couple times to see if maybe he needed to get sick but nothing. what do i do?

It's unlikely that a tiny bit of rock salt will affect a dog as big as Loki significantly, however salt poisoning can definitely be a big problem in dogs, and the only way to know for sure is to test the blood levels of sodium to see if they are significantly elevated. If hypernatremia (elevated sodium) is the problem, dogs need aggressive intravenous fluid therapy in order to recover, so I would urge you to get this checked right away if you do suspect salt poisoning.
