Why is my senior dog shaking, moving slow, and isolating herself?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 10 years and 11 months old | 18 lbs

Two weeks after her annual vet visit, my dog (10 YO Beagle-Pug mix) started having tremors and was moving slow for a few days. We took her back to the vet and everything was normal. Fast forward, the tremors are sporadic, some more violent than others, especially when we show concern. She is isolating herself, moving slow and is not as playful (some days she is, however). I checked her neck for pain earlier and received no response. Suggestions?

Hello. At 10 years of age, I would not rule out arthritis in Sookie. But there could be other things going on. A good geriatric blood panel will give a great overview of her health, & then I would try her on a trial of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication to see how she responds. X rays of her neck & back can be very revealing, too. Hopefully, Sookie will be feeling better soon. Take care.
