How to help my outdoor Mastiff live indoors with a scared Shih Tzu?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mastiff | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 9 months old | 130 lbs

How can I get my almost 7 year old Mastiff to live in the house? She’s lived outside her whole life and has barely came in the house. I have a Shih Tzu in the house already but he’s a little scared of her because she’s so big.

You could try getting Sissy acclimated to a crate inside or a comfortable bed. Also, feeding Sissy all of her meals inside will help get her more comfortable with being indoors. Making use of an Adaptil collar for both Sissy and your Shih tzu may help resolve some of the anxiety they may be experiencing.
