Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | 4 years and 10 months old | 26 lbs
Hi, my name is Pearl from South Africa. I have a 4 year old Jack Russell who is really active and lively. About 2 months ago I started noticing that he has a large lump in his neck, right under the lower jaw. The lump is hard and is surrounded by other small lumps around that area. We took him to the vet and they tried to do any fluid extraction and nothing came out of the lump, they gave him antibiotics that he should eat for a week, those didn't seem to help either. He also coughs Thanks*

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be a benign or malignant growth. It could also be an enlarged lymph node. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and best wishes!
