My puppy threw up worms. What kind and what dewormer should I use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered

Hello there, my 7 month old puppy was sick a few times on Sunday the last time this is what came out. Thinking he could have worms I dewormed him but he hasn't passed any. I've just read the dewormer that I used and it only covers ringworm so you think this is from another kind of worm thank you. Leanne

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It does look like an intestinal parasite. Most general dewormers get just round worms. They tend to look think like spaghetti noodles. I think your picture MAY be of a tape worm. Cestex, drontal or droncit get tape worm. Be sure to check Gizmo well for fleas, that is how they get tape worm. I would suggest taking a stool sample to the Vet to be sure you are deworming him properly. I hope this helps and I wish Gizmo the best!
