Why did my friend's skittish mouse bite me when my mouse is pregnant?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed

I have 3 female mice one of them is mine and she is pregnant and about to give birth any day now. The other two mice are my friends, she’s going away for a month and I’m looking after them. They get along perfectly fine with my female mouse. My friends two mice have been with me for two weeks now they are a little skittish but will eat from my hands but just today I went to check on my pregnant mouse like I do everyday and when I put my hand into the cage one of my friends mice started to bit

Your friend’s mice were probably just startled for some reason when you approached them today. I would recommend that you continue to engage and interact with them regularly to help gain their trust. The mice are in a relatively new environment and are probably very prone to stress. I would also recommend separating the pregnant mouse from the other two mice. Her pregnancy and birth can be very stressful and so anything you can do to help relieve her anxieties/stress would be good for her. I hope this helps.
