Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He may be experiencing symptoms of having a gastrointestinal obstruction though other things like dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among other things could also be going on. For this reason, I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible to ensure that this does not become worse and to see if he will require therapy such as surgery if he is in fact having an obstruction. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Max! Licking the carpet can be a sign of nausea. Since he vomited up a clothing tag, I worry that he ate fabric and has a obstruction. I recommend that you take him to the Vet when they open for an exam and X-rays. If he ate fabric most of the time they need surgery to remove it. Other causes of nausea and vomiting are: viral or bacterial infections, intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, new food/treat/table food, food allergy/intolerance, pancreatitis, toxin ingestion, inflammatory bowel disease, kidney or liver problems. Due to Max's age they may also want to do blood work as well. I hope this helps and I wish Max a speedy recovery!
