My dog has a rash and scratches. Is it allergies or anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

My dog is having a reaction to something. The vet from the first visit said she could be allergic to the plastic from her new bowl. She now eats out of a metal bowl but the symptoms continue. She is continuously scratching and has a rash around her mouth. She is now on antibiotics but I want to know the cause. She is an anxious dog, could this be anxiety related. My other dog is having chemo treatment, could this be a reaction if she ate her feaces?

It is hard to tell from the picture, but if her nose is affected as well then I would be more concerned. Not could be just an infection but the location make me more concerned about an immune mediated disorder affecting the skin. If the antibiotics don’t resolve the problem then I would encourage you to biopsy the skin. This is the best chance at getting you an answer and to stream line the best course of treatment. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
