My dog is shaking, scooting, and anxious. Is it the new food?

Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is unlikely to be due to his diet. Shaking and being tense are fairly non-specific clinical signs. This could be perhaps due to an outside noise or something that occurred that is causing him stress such as a new animal or person in the house. I would just monitor him closely for now. If it does not resolve by tomorrow, then have him evaluated by your veterinarian to rule out a medical issue such as pain that could explain the shaking. It is likely that he will be fine. Shaking can be a sign of anxiety, but it can also be a sign of pain. Back/neck and abdominal pain in particular can be difficult to localize and sometimes reluctance to move and shaking are the only signs. Shaking can also be a sign of a fever. If you think Peanut might be painful or if he continues to show no interest in his regular food I'd recommend seeing your vet for an exam. They can look for a source of pain and evaluate his temperature.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, this could be secondary to dietary indiscretion from changing his diet though this could also be something else. If it is just from changing his diet then this should stop very shortly. However, if this is due to something else such as pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among other possibilities then this is unlikely to resolve and a veterinary evaluation would be indicated for further assessment and treatment. Full anal glands or anal gland infection can cause irritation which can lead to scooting and material from the glands to be expressed. Mucous in the stool can be caused by inflammation in the intestinal tract. Parasitic infection, viral, or bacterial infections can be a common cause. Changing food rapidly or eating something out of the ordinary can be a cause as well. Vomiting or inability to keep food down can have similar causes but can also indicate an obstruction, pancreatitis, and other organ issues. Might be a good idea to have Lola seen by her veterinarian for further evaluation. Your vet may recommend x-rays and/or blood work in addition to a fecal test to help determine the cause of her symptoms. I hope this helps!

GI upset can be due to a variety of causes, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, foreign material ingestion, or another underlying medical issue. If Shadow's energy level is normal and he is able to keep down water, I would recommend withholding food until the morning and then starting small amounts of a bland diet (white meat chicken with white rice, for example). If this does not improve his signs within 24-48 hours, then I would recommend he be evaluated by a veterinarian. If the vomiting and diarrhea worsen, he starts acting lethargic, becomes inappetent or you are concerned, then I would recommend he be seen by a veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (xrays, bloodwork) and start any treatment (fluid therapy, anti-diarrheal, anti-nausea medication) that he may need to feel better. Seeing that Booboo is 12 years old, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to make sure that there are no major changes to his blood that would indicate why he is exhibiting these symptoms. Its unikely that this behavior is due to something he's eating. Is there any construction, or other new loud noises or lots of different people around? This could be contributing the behavior. Make sure he's getting regular exercise such as a daily walk. Exercise is very helpful for dogs who may have some signs of anxiety. Because of the possibility of this being related to a food sensitivity, you can try to feed her a sensitive stomach commercial diet to see is this improves.
