Puppy has night congestion, watery eyes, cough. Allergies? Benadryl?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 22 lbs

My 8 month old rescue puppy (received all first round shots and due back in January for next rounds) has recent started to become congested at night time with watering eyes and some coughing. He is playing like usual, bathroom habits are the same and he is still eating his dinner and treats no problem. Could this be allergies? If so, can he be given 1/4 a Benadryl (21 pound pit bull mix) at night?

Allergies are a possibility along with the start of a respiratory infection. You can give Benadryl to dogs and at his weight it would be closer to a whole 25 mg tablet instead of a 1/4. I would say get him checked if the symptoms continue or you notice them progress
