My dog is thin, hungry, and thirsty after puppies. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My boxer had puppies about a month ago. Ever since then she has became very very thin. She always acts like she's starving. I'll feed her all day until she stops. I just keep a bowl of food out for her 24/7 . She will also drink around a gallon of water a day. She is still looking very bad. I was wandering if there is anything I can do at home to help her. I couldn't really afford a vet around Christmas time.

She really needs to see a vet. I wish I could tell you something to do at home but that is not possible without knowing why she is showing those symptoms. Not only that, but those symptoms are very non-specific and could be from almost any disease process or illness that can affect a dog. Some examples would be: diabetes, thyroid disease, kidney disease, liver disease, Cushing's disease, parasites,....just to name a few. I suggest you look for a low cost/affordable vet in your area or try contacting one of these organizations to see if they can offer any assistance. http://www.dogheirs.com/resources-affordable-veterinary-care/
