Why does my dog have skin lumps, hair loss, dry skin after grooming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 115 lbs

We took our lab to get groomed a few weeks ago. That night I saw big lumps on the top of her head, 6 of them. I thought she injured her self in cage. Then eventually her hair started falling out on these areas. Skin is still raised a little and dry. Then I was thinking allergic reaction from the shampoo. We usually bath her our self. First time at a groomers. She is 6 and a half years old. Is this something that sometimes happens?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While Jetta's bumps can be caused by a reaction to the shampoo used, they can also be due to an infection or certain skin mites. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area for the next few days and having Jetta seen by a vet if it does not improve. The area may also be itchy, so you can get her an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her from scratching andc ausing further damage. I hope this helps and that Jetta feels better soon!
