Why does my dog have skin lumps, hair loss, dry skin after grooming?

This could be a fungal or bacterial skin infection and if she was only put on antibiotics and this is a fungal infection, it will not respond. This could also be an immune mediated condition that needs drugs to suppress the immune system in order to be treated. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! The lesions that you are seeing on JR's back could indeed be a reaction to a shampoo. However, it also looks to me that it could be a result of a bacterial infection, mite infection or even a flea allergy. The best thing to do would be to take JR to a veterinarian so that they can do a skin scrape and cytology to see what it going on. That way JR can be prescribed antibiotics or other medication if necessary.

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin test

She could have a bacterial skin infection causing the problem. You could bathe her with a medicated dog shampoo, like Epi-Soothe and see if that helps. Otherwise, have her examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an antibiotic and corticosteroid to treat.
