My newborn orphaned kitten has swollen feet and won't eat. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 8 days old | 0.2 lbs

I found an orphaned newborn kitten and she's currently 7days old from the day i found her. She's been doing well until today i found that she had poop on her this morning so I clean her up and this afternoon she started to have swollen feet and some kind of blister on her belly. The vet is not open until tomorrow. What should I do? She also refused to be feed. Please help me

Orphaned kittens at this age have a tough time surviving without their mothers and this kitten appears to be severely affected. The swelling likely indicates low protein levels, which can happen when they don't get enough in their diet and/or they get diarrhea. Unfortunately, their is not much you can do for this at home and would require a transfusion. For now, the best thing you can do is keep her from getting low blood sugar, or too cold. Since she is not eating, it's good to give her a little honey or karo syrup on her gums every two hours. Keep her warm by providing heating and covering her in blankets.
