My dog ate an oyster, now hunched, stiff, and can't walk. Vet needed?

Poor Zee Zee. It's clear the oyster shell pieces have upset her stomach, causing the vomiting. The issue her is that these can cause a blockage. The best thing to do is take her into a vet immediately to get her checked out, as I can't say if she will be ok or not. A blockage is fatal without treatment. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. I do not recommend to give any human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!

He could be sore in his neck or back or in his abdomen. He may have an upset stomach, but I am worried that he is dehydrated as well from not eating and drinking. He will require medical care from his veterinarian to diagnose the problem and formulate a treatment plan. I do not recommend giving Pepto bismol. First, he sounds more sick than from a mild GI illness. I also do not find it to be very effective in dogs. Finally, it contains an aspirin like compound that can be very hard on a dog's stomach and intestines potentially making gastrointestinal signs worse. I hope this information helps!

Poor Ace! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of injury or illness. He may be painful due to arthritis, a slipped disc in his back, or some other cause; or he may not be feeling well due to an illness such as liver or kidney disease, or even some type of cancer. I would recommend having Ace examined by a vet as soon as possible, since it sounds like he's quite uncomfortable. The vet can do blood work and x-rays to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

He may have some spinal cord problems, especially with the cervical spinal cord, such as a slipped disk or arthritic changes that press on nerves and are painful. Ob is apparently very much in pain and therefore should be seen by a veterinarian tonight. The vet will do a thorough physical exam, palpate the spine to find where the pain is coming from, and also do a neurological exam and then x-rays. He will then discuss the exam findings with you and possible treatment. Your dog will get pain medicine and other medications as necessary. Dogs with pain often do not eat, and eating also may be painful as he has to chew, open his mouth and move the jaws. This may be more painful than lapping up water.

Poor Oswald! If he is shaking from the pain and not able to eat then you could take him to an emergency clinic for an exam and treatment. He could have a bad tooth that is causing him a lot of pain and may need medications to help relieve the pain. Pain medication would make him a lot more comfortable overnight until his regular appointment tomorrow. You could also call your vet and give him/her an update and see if he/she would just prescribe a pain medication for tonight. Hope he feels better soon!

I would have Lily examined by a vet. I would not expect these types of symptoms after eating oyster sauce. Is it possible she might have eaten anything else? Your vet will do a thorough physical and neurologic exam, and may recommend bloodwork to see what is going on internally to figure out what treatment is needed.

If his abdomen is hard and he seems uncomfortable than he should be seen by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a physical examination and take an xray, if needed, to help diagnose. He could have some gas distention, enlarged organ, constipation, etc and your vet can determine the best way to treat. Hope he feels better soon.

One thing I would be concerned about Sage eating scallops is that if he ate the orange part of them (the roe). The orange part contains toxins which can be fatal to dogs. If Sage did eat the orange part, you do need to take him into a vet immediately. This many scallops will cause GI upset, and there is a chance of infection from the bacteria of the raw scallops. If he did not eat the roe, I would monitor him for now. Likely you will see GI upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea, and if you do see that, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
