My dog has FCE. How can I calm her anxiety and help her walk again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Female | unspayed | 13 years and 1 month old | 20 lbs

My dog was diagnosed yesterday with having an FCE. She is very anxious, panting and shivering. I did not know if there was anything i could do to help calm her. Or any therapy to help boost her into moving her limbs again.

There isn’t thing you can give at home to help keep her calm but the best therapy is helping her walk. When she is laying down just gently bend her legs in a bicycle motion so she does it get stuff. When you take her outside keep a towel under her belly and waist to help support her when she is walking so she can stretch the front legs and go to the bathroom. Once she gets some strength and tone back then you can slowly decrease the amount of weight you are supporting
