Is it normal for my dog to poop less after switching to adult food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 1 year old | 12 lbs

Pepper is now completely transitioned from puppy kibble to adult kibble. It is the same brand and flavor just the adult. I have noticed that she has been having fewer BM's the last few days. Normal on puppy food was 3 times and now it is 1-2. Is that normal once being on adult food to have fewer BM's?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, that is seen sometimes and it has to do with the composition of the new diet which is essentially lower in fat. This is ok and if she is otherwise doing fine, there is no reason to be concerned about this. Good luck and have a good night!
