My Yorkie has SAS. Can she safely play with other dogs after divorce?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 4 lbs

I am in doubt about my pet behavior. She is a 1 1/2 year old yorkshire. She was diagnosed with SAS. I have recently got divorced. My ex has 2 yorkies too. I would like to know if I should or shouldn't let him come over to see her. She likes them very much. However I worry if these eventual visits can make her suffer more. Thanks for your help.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to post your concern. I would not deprive Jully of seeing other dogs and enjoying their company. I would, however, be cautious with how much you let her run around as this could exacerbate the SAS. Excessive exercise can make this condition worse and potentially fatal depending on the severity of the disease. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
