Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 16 lbs
Hi, I have a diabetic 9-year-old dachshund who also was recently diagnosed with cataracts. However the vet said it was not so bad about a month ago. His eye has been draining discharge at times for a few days And today one of his eyes is swollen shut. He is very lethargic but still has his appetite. However, he is resting much much more than normal. I am worried about him and cannot afford to take him to an emergency vet. I need guidance. Thanks

A cataract does not produce pain or a discharge. That would make me worry about an ulcer on the cornea or dry eye to cause pain and a discharge. It does need to be seen as soon as possible to see what the problem is but until then you can apply a warm compress to help and rinse with saline eye wash to keep it clean
