My dog has Cushing's & rectal bleeding. Vet's closed. Is she okay?

Pooping blood can be related to medication, but without knowing the medications she is on, I can't say for certain. It's not a typical symptom of Cushings, however, and it could be caused by GI ulcers, intestinal parasites, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or GI tumors. Given that she is eating and drinking well, it's fine to wait until Monday, but if that changes or she becomes very lethargic and unwell, I would take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her right away.

Hello and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Cushing's disease doesn't typically cause bloody diarrhea, vomiting and collapse. I would be worried something else is going on either with the Cushings or it's not Cushings and could be something like Addisons- which is more emergent. There is a test for these diseases but Dexter may need just a basic panel at this time to find out more information. If it is Cushings, it is not too late to intervene but the vomiting and diarrhea will complicate things. I recommend getting him to a vet right away and start with an exam and basic blood work. Cushing’s syndrome (if that is indeed what she has), is rarely an emergency. Many dogs have had the disorder for months (or years) prior to diagnosis. However, diabetes can have very similar signs and that is more of a concern. If she has lost weight, or if she is not eating then I would recommend an emergency veterinarian to make sure she is not diabetic and starting to Decompensate. I also notice that she is not spayed. Pyometra is a uterine infection that usually starts with increased water intake, But they usually progress to not feeling well soon. Some of these dogs also have vaginal discharge and typically occurs 6 weeks or so after last heat cycle. If she is eating well and seem fine otherwise then waiting until Monday seems appropriate to me. If possible try to take a urine sample with you to your veterinarian appointment. Hi there. If the cyst is bleeding right now, the only thing you can do at home is apply direct pressure to it with a paper towel or wash cloth until the bleeding stops. Then, I would recommend taking Mocha to the vet to have this checked when you are able to. He/she can advise you on whether the cyst should be surgically removed, or if any other treatment (antibiotics, etc.) is needed.

As long as Cocoa is acting normally otherwise you can probably wait to go to the veterinarian first thing tomorrow morning. However, if she shows any other abnormal signs then I would recommend going to the emergency veterinarian tonight. She may have a urinary tract infection, which although uncomfortable, is not an emergency to be seen immediately. There's a very small chance this could be related to something called stump pyometra which is an infection of the uterine stump in spayed female dogs. This could be a possibility. If your vet thinks Cushing she could be complicating her diabetes, you could consider testing her for cushings. If she definitely has cushings then you can start treating her for that. In the meantime, y'all will need to work on getting her diabetes under control. Another option would be to see if there is a specialist (internist) near you that could take over her case to help you get the DKA under control while also diagnosing and treating for cushings if needed. The main difference between a specialist and a general practitioner is that the specialist specializes in these complicated metabolic diseases and usually have facilities and specialized equipment that can care for them 24 hours if needed. If there is a cost concern and yall are unable to get the DKA under control and she is continuing to decline then yes, I would consider euthanasia. Cushing's or Hyperadrenocorticism is a fairly common endocrine disease in dogs. It can be caused by a bit of overactive tissue in the brain (in the pituitary gland, which is the master ruler of hormone secretion in the body) or a mass in an adrenal gland (sits by the kidneys, secretes hormones as directed by the pituitary gland). Basically what happens is an excess of a hormone in the body, usually a steroid called cortisol, if it is traditional Cushing's. This then causes some symptoms in the pet, blood work changes, and sometimes other changes like high blood pressure. I suspect based on the value that you report that this was a liver enzyme elevation call ALP. This very commonly occurs in pets that have Cushings, but is not specific for Cushing's and elevation can be caused by other disease processes. If Daddy is doing fine otherwise and is not having any other symptoms such as vomiting, lethargy, inappetance, etc. I would monitor for now. I would recommend initiating a bland diet as outlined below and feed this for at least 3 days beyond the resolution of the blood in the stool. I am so sorry that your pet is not only ill but that you were brushed off by the emergency person when seeking help. That is quite unheard of also disturbing that someone would laugh at your pets misfortune. I am not sure your pets breed or age, but you should call another emergency vet in the area and get him seen right away. In fact if they are open, I would not wait and just take him in to be seen. He either has a really bad case of stress related hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a coagulation disorder, pancreatitis, or a toxin exposure as the cause of his symptoms. Thank you for submitting Buddy. I hope that he is feeling better now. If not, I recommend that he sees a veterinarian right away. Cushing's can make dogs more prone to blood clots. A clot in the lungs can cause increased respiratory effort. This can usually be diagnosed with x-rays of his chest. Sometimes a specific urine test is used to look for certain factors.
