Why is my pregnant mouse bleeding but not giving birth yet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed

I have a female mouse that is about 3 weeks pregnant. 2 days ago I picked her up and there was a small amount of blood coming from her, I kept an eye on her and that was the only blood that came out. I searched online and it’s seems like she is in labour she has moments where she seems like normal. It’s been a couple of days and she still hasn’t given birth but she’s still eating and moving around fine I just wanted to make sure she was doing alright and if there was anything I could do to help

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From the photo, it does not appear that Chino’s abdomen is distended and she seems quite active. It is not uncommon for mice to lose pregnancies and resorb the fetuses, and this may have happened in Chino’s case. I recommend keeping a close eye on her to make sure she is eating and drinking normally and does not appear hunched or unkempt as these may be signs of dystocia or difficulty giving birth. I hope this helps and that all is well with you and Chino!
