My dog's surgery wound staple is loose. Should I worry about healing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 12 years and 4 months old | 35 lbs

My dog recently got surgey on her abdomen to remove tumors and staples to close the long wound. One of the staples seems to have come a little loose and the wound is no longer completely alligned in one small section (on the left of the picture) Should i be concerned about this affecting the healing process of her wound? Is there anything I can do to correct it?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The area will still continue to heal without the staple. Monitor daily for redness, swelling, discharge, or heat. If you notice that, return to the vet for further evaluation. Kisses to Lucky!
