Why do 10-month-old rescue dogs still have house training accidents?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 21 days old | 23.6 lbs

My dogs are rescues. I adopted them around 3.5 months old. They're almost 10 months old now and they still occasionally have accidents in the house. Is this normal?

Some dogs house break easier than others. Small male dogs can be the hardest to house break. I would recommend to continue treating them as if they are little puppies. Its still important to eliminate the potential to have accidents in the house. Until you are sure they will not longer potty in the house, continue the focus on housebreaking.
