My adopted pitbull has dry skin & hair loss. Can I bathe him with staples?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 60.6 lbs

My pitbull (2 years) has very dry skin. Almost like dandruff. I just got him from the shelter about 2 days ago. He was in a fight (victim) he has staples in his legs. I’m not sure if a bath is okay. And he has hair loss. Not sure if it’s from the fight or maybe skin allergy

Congratulations on adding Kane to your family! You cannot wash Kane until the wounds have completely healed. He has been in rough circumstances so give a good diet and a loving home a chance to work before you address his skin. I'm sure you have already purchased food but I would recommend Royal Canin or Nutro as both of these are good for dogs who are prone to dry skin. The staples will be removed 10-14 days after they were placed. Protect them from scratching and licking. I hope this helps!
