My cat has a hole on his neck. Does he need a vet or home care?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My cat has a hole around his neck and it looks like a dog got to him, but it also looks like an insect. I just wanted to know if it is something that I should take him to the vet for or if it’s something that can be healed at home.

Poor Chiqus! Yes, I do think he should go to the vet to have this lesion evaluated. If Chiqus sustained a bite wound or has foreign material in this lesion, he will likely require antibiotics and may even need surgery if foreign material is still in this lesion. I hope this helps and that all goes well!
