If your hamster is already an adult then the timing for teaching socializing has passed. However, with time and patience, daily handling, and positive reinforcement with yummy treats he may come around. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Hamsters can be very independent and choosy when it comes to people. They are often frightened around other people and prefer being alone so training may be challenging but not impossible. The best way to get your hamster used to you is by using treats. Reserve his favorite snacks for the times you want to interact with him. This way he will learn that every interaction with you has a positive outcome and he will want to interact with you more and more. Start off slowly so as to not frighten him. Let him come to you at the beginning and try not to hold/handle him too much until he becomes more used to your presence. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
