Why is my bulldog lethargic with an oozing skin rash and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Male | neutered | 50 lbs

Bulldog. Large patch of red, irritated with clear liquid oozing from the area left of his throat. No smell. Our bulldog has hardly left hiz bed & is not even eating. We are cleaning this site several times per day. He wants to scratch but we are preventing this as best as we can. Unsure if environmental or from flea notes. Please help. Any home remedies will help until we have finds for a vet visit.

Hello, and thank you for your question and photos. This looks like a severe skin infection that will require treatment with antibiotics and/or antifungals. There may be also an underlying abnormality such as a mass, allergies, or parasites as you suggested. I would definitely recommend getting him seen at the vet as soon as possible, especially since he is lethargic and not eating. In the meantime, it is important that he does not scratch. You can also try applying a weak solution of betadine + water (1:10) or chlorhexidine solution as an antiseptic until you can get to the vet. I hope this helps, and that Tank is feeling better soon!
