Is Robitussin DM safe for my senior dog with lung issues and cough?

My mini poodle is 15 yo and takes a fluid pill due to lung issues. She is coughing a lot. Can I give her Tustin dm

Hello, and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear that Fluffy is having coughing issues. I think you are asking about Robitussin DM? This is a human product that is designed for cough related to colds. Unfortunately it will have no effectiveness against fluid build up in the lungs, and it is also not tested and deemed safe for dogs. As a result I cannot recommend it. If Fluffy's cough is worsening even on the fluid pill (diuretic), I would recommend taking her back to your vet who can adjust the dose of the pill, and/or provide another medication that can help provide some relief. If the cough has suddenly worsened, it would also be worth having your vet investigate for any new causes for the cough, such as infection, masses, or chronic inflammation, or worsening heart disease. I hope this helps, and that Fluffy is feeling better soon.
