My old Lab has a dry nose scab after pneumonia. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 13 years and 9 months old | 52 lbs

I just picked a small white scab off of my Labrador Retriever’s nose. Her nose is pretty dry but not crusty. She recently was diagnosed with pneumonia at the beginning of this month on the 6th. I just want to know if I should be concerned. If maybe this is just a side effect from the pneumonia. She is 13 years old by the way. Thanks in advance :)

I wouldn't be too concerned. They can have nasal discharge that can crust over their nose. As long as she is recovering well from the pneumonia then I wouldn't worry too much. It is hard to be 100% without seeing it, so you can always upload up to 3 photos for us to see. If you notice her cough getting worse, nasal discharge getting worse, not eating, lethargic or has a fever I recommend bringing her back to the veterinarian. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
