Is it safe for my 4-month-old puppy to eat leftover mac and cheese?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | 4 months old

My 4 month old puppy drinks a small portion of milk daily, after I gave it to him once to see if he would become sick, and he didn't. So, should it be okay to feed Coco a small portion of my leftover macaroni and cheese?

He may be able to handle it. As dogs mature and wean, they produce less of the enzyme required to digest milk and dairy products. The result is that they become lactose intolerant. This can lead to gastrointestinal upset if they ingest dairy products. You can try a small amount and then monitor him for any signs of upset (vomiting, diarrhea, gas, etc). If so, you'll need to discontinue offering these types of food. If he tolerates it, offer only small amounts infrequently.
