Is ethylene oxide sterilized gauze toxic for my cat's teeth cleaning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | 6 years and 9 months old

Hi, I have a 6 years old Persian cat, just wanted to know if its safe to use gauze sterilized by ethylene oxide gas to clean her teeth. Whether it will be toxic to her or not? As it will enter her mouth. I am really concerned. Thanks

Ethylene oxide, while harmful in its free form, should not have any residue on these gauze if it was properly aerated and treated post sterilization procedures. It’s main purpose is to kill microbes on the gauze pads and therefore sterilize it. It should pose very minimal risk to your pet if used in the mouth.
