Kitten teething: Lost tooth, bleeding gums. Is it normal? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 29 days old | 10 lbs

My cat/kitten is teething and just lost his 2nd fang as we were playing, his gums are bleeding and it's freaking me out a little. How much blood is normal? What should I do for him?

It can be scary to see blood when a kitten loses teeth, but a small amount is normal. If you see broken teeth, if Ember is having difficulty eating or drinking, or if you feel as though he is in pain, please see your vet. You can soak a rope toy in water and freeze it and see if Ember would like to chew on it to provide some relief while he is teething.
