Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Fig! A diet change absolutely can be a cause of bloody stool. Blood in the stool indicates inflammation in the colon. Other possible causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, stress. I would change her back to the original food and hopefully the blood goes away. If the blood persists for the next 2 days I would have her examine by your Vet before the holidays. She may need antibiotics to help her get through this. I hope this helps and I wish Fig a speedy recovery!

I am very sorry that you are having this trouble with Felix I do not believe his life is in danger at the moment if the only sign is dirrhoea with blood and you have only noticed it for less then 24 hours. I would rest his gastrointestinal tract for a few hours. Then try a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast. Provide plenty of fresh water to keep Felix hydrated If the dirrhoea continues then I would take him to see the vet tomorrow. From what you have described it sounds as though Felix has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in cats, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, or ingestion of contaminated food. It could also be that Felix cannot eat this type of food as it does not agree with him or that his worms are back. Cats need to be dewormed roughly 4 times a year. If the episodes continue, if Felix becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Felix to see his vet. I hope this answer was helpful and more importantly that Felix feels better soon. Warmest regards to you both.

I am very sorry to hear that Panda is experiencing this issue, I am sure it is unsettling. From what you are describing, a normal bowel movement which has fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Panda has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, or ingestion of contaminated food. Since you have only noticed one such episode I would continue to monitor Panda at home. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and plenty of fresh water. If the episodes continue, if Panda becomes depressed, passes large amounts of blood, vomits, or seems very uncomfortable take Panda to see his vet. I hope this answer was helpful and more importantly that Panda feels better soon. Warmest regards to you both.
