My bird vomits on her bed monthly after laying eggs. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 1 year and 6 months old

My bird, Rio, has been vomiting for about a week now. Rio is only 1 year old. She will only vomit on her fluffy bird bed. She has laid eggs about 1 month ago and began vomiting now, even after I took out her eggs (she has no mate so they don’t have a chick in them). I’m very confused as to why she’s vomiting and I’m worried that’s she’s sick. she also has ripped up her fluffy bird bed and might’ve aten it. also, this happens every month.

If Rio has been vomiting for a week straight, or you suspect she ate part of a foreign item, those are both very concerning signs. I would seek veterinary care ASAP to rule out any issues such as a foreign body from eating parts of her bed, illness causing GI upset, parasites, infections, etc. It could also be that she is regurgitating as a sign she wants to mate, especially if it is only in one specific area/on her nest. Removing the bed may help resolve this issue some. It is also a good idea to remove the bedding if she is attempting to eat it, and to remove any extra treats or food other than her regular diet to see if that helps improve her symptoms- however, if they continue, seeking veterinary care is needed.
