My cat goes into his litter box late at night and starts digging for a very long time. Sometimes the litter is clean and new but he just doesn’t stop until I wake up get out of bed and pet him outside the box. Does he need more attention? Plz help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely behavioral in nature. This may indicate anxiety for example. You can start by changing the litter to see if that makes a difference. Also, I recommend that you try a product called Feliway which you can buy online which can help ease anxiety. If it does not improve, have him evaluated by your veterinarian to make sure that there is not a medical reason such as having difficulty urinating or defecating for example. Good luck!
