My 9-month-old Golden Retriever is losing a lot of hair. What's wrong?

I have a 9-month-old golden retriever. I need a solution because hi lose a lot of hair.-

There are a number of reasons why he could be losing hair. If his skin seems fine and he's not scratching, his skin looks normal (no redness, scaling, oozing, etc.) it could be part of the natural shedding cycle or due to his age and developing his adult coat. If the shedding seems abnormal, if the skin is involved, if he is losing hair in patches, itching, etc., I recommend you get him seen by a vet who can examine the skin, possibly do some labwork and., based on these results, will be better able to advise you on the cause of the shedding and how best to manage and treat it.

    Dogs lose the entire coat up to twice a year. This can vary in severity and as long as the hair grows back and the skin looks normal, this is expected. If the skin is red or he seems itchy or the hair is not re-growing, have him examined by his veterinarian. Certain diets promote skin and coat health such as Nutro and Royal Canin. My golden retriever is 7months old but doesn't have much hair. What could be the reason. Could it be labour dog retriever?
Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There is a variety of reasons that can explain alopecia or hair loss. The causes can easily be differentiated by the clinical signs associated with it and the physical exam findings. If Cookie is only showing some hair loss without scratching or overgrooming then it could conditions such as alopecia areata that can affect dogs and cats and usually resolves on its own. If there is evidence of scratching and you start noticing some redness or irritation associated with it, then other conditions such as allergies are possible. If you notice her overgrooming herself in that area then it could be something like psychogenic alopecia which is more of a behavioral issue. I think that since she is not having overt clinical signs and it is mostly hair loss, I think it is possibly transient and could resolve on its own. You can monitor this closely and if it does not resolve or it worsens then have her examined by your veterinarian. Good luck!

I love the golden retriever coat, but my puppy has lost all his hair. He had beautiful furry body, i have his before and after pics attatched. But he kept losing his hair and only his undercoat remained. He doesn’t scratch and or seem uncomfortable.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco. I can’t tell for sure without looking and feeling but it is likely that it is perfectly normal. Austin is simply loosing his “puppy coat” and growing in his new adult fur. The adult coat of Goldens is quite soft and shiny when properly cared for but it will never be quite as soft as his newborn fur. Of course if it stays very thin or there are large patches missing, talk to your vet about what else could be going on (mites, hormonal problem, post shave alopecia, or other problems.) Hi, and thanks for your question. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Cooper has hairfall since two week I took him vet and got injection for hairfall control but still he losses hair he is off 10 months male what to do? Is that normal for lab at that age?
Hello. Hair loss in dogs can be normal (shedding) if it is being replaced by new hair growth. This is normal and will occur, and clean up can be controlled by brushing your dog's hair every day. If patches are being lost and the skin is showing, you should check for fleas/mites. A skin scraping may be necessary. If that is not the cause it could be due to infection, allergies, or other causes.

My French mastiff is 9 months old losing massive amounts of hair. He is bald in spots now what can I do what is it? Please suggest medicine or food diet for him
Causes of hair loss could include external parasites such as fleas and mange mites, and allergies (we can have allergies to food or things in the environment such as pollen/grass/dust) and sometimes infections of the skin with bacteria or yeast. I would recommend a visit with your vet to have a skin scrape done to be sure we don't have mange mites present that need treatment. I would start a flea preventative such as Advantage (available over the counter) or your vet also has prescription medication for this issue. I have 8 month old female lab,theres a lot of hair loss that's going on...what should I do??...
Pets can experience hair loss for many reasons. If you are noticing bald areas, redness to the skin, scabs or flaky skin, Joy could have a skin infection, need a different diet or an omega 3 supplement for pets. 8 months old female labrador facing heavy hairfall problem from last 6 months. Plz suggest me what should i do??
You might try changing the diet to see if this helps. I recommend the brand Royal Canin. This diet can help a lot with hair issues. Otherwise things like parasites and thyroid issues can also affect the hair coat. I recommend having Daisy seen by a veterinarian to look for an underlying medical condition. I have a female golden retriever 11 months old. From few days she has suffering from itching much and sheding her long hairs much. Is there anything serious?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for envir

My almost 6 month old Labrador puppy has started to shed a huge amount of hair For the last few weeks. I thought it would be too early for the spring shed and Too late for her to lose puppy coat (her fur seemed to changed at around 4 months already).
Shedding large amounts of hair at one time in a puppy at any age between 4-8 months is going to be normal. There are estimates to when a pet should shed, but again you have to take into account that there is a bell curve with any estimate, so some dogs fall to the left or right of this. Dogs can also shed at multiple intervals, because the entire shedding process can be broken up into phases. You know you are dealing with an actual skin issue when you see patches of bald areas on the skin. As long as she doesn't have alopecia areas then this is considered to be a normal shedding process.
