My dog chewed an albuterol inhaler. Is it dangerous? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 2 years and 11 months old | 70 lbs

My 70 lb pit chewed into an albuterol vial. He didn't ingest much, less than 1/4 of it. Should I take him in right away or be looking for any signs before I get concerned?

It depends on specifically how much was ingested, but these sorts of exposures are concerning and have caused major problems in dogs before. This drug can cause heart problems and lead to life-threatening complications, so my best recommendation is to take Rosco in to a vet for an evaluation. He may need treatment or monitoring tonight. Hopefully, all will be OK and he'll be fine, but it's best to check.
