Why is my puppy lethargic and sneezing? Is she sick or lonely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 28 days old | 12.5 lbs

We fostered 2 3-month-old sister puppies for a week and adopted one, the other by a close family friend yesterday. Since then, our puppy has been more lethargic and we aren't sure if it's due to her missing her sister or related to the few times a day sneezes she's been having for the past few days. Visited vet less than a week ago and he said they were okay. Lightly runny nose right after sneeze. We recently lost a 3-mo-old and are obviously over cautious but want to make sure we do all we can

It's most likely the illness that is causing her to act like this. It's common for puppies to get various upper respiratory infections at this age. She could have been perfectly normal last week, but she is definitely sick now, so I recommend a recheck by the veterinarian. Upper respiratory infections are often treatable and do not cause severe disease in pups, but there are a few scary diseases (i.e. Canine Distemper) that can start-out like this and become very serious later on. For this reason, I recommend scheduling an appointment with a vet in the next day or two. I hope that helps and Piper gets better soon.
