Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 15 days old | 1lb

6 weeks old..tiny chiweenie. Is 8 weeks ok to take for 1st vet visit or should i take him sooner? No sign of worms, eating, eliminating normal. Less than 1lb. Worried to small for shots.

So cute! If he seems healthy and is not having any problems then he could wait until he is 8 weeks old for a vet visit. I probably would not vaccinate him at his age and weight. You should limit his exposure to other dogs and do not take him to any public places until he is vaccinated. You could take a stool sample to your vet and have him/her test it for parasites and/or get a broad spectrum dewormer from your vet and give him a dose, especially if he hasn't already been dewormed by the breeder. Good luck!

Depending on the cause of his sickness, it may not be a good idea to have him vaccinated, especially if he has a fever. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at him to determine if he should be vaccinated. Your vet can also prescribe medications to help make him feel better.
