My cat's urinary problem worsened, meowing & shivering. Is he okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Male | neutered | 13.6 lbs

Excuse me, my cat has urinary problems and keeps meowing so we took him to the vet this morning and the doctors said that he would be alright as long as we gave him the proper medication. Even so, his condition worsened a few hours later and he kept meowing in pain and kept shivering too. I wonder if he is going to be alright, his name is Monty, he is a striped Bengal, 3 years old and neutered.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I am sorry that Monty is not feeling well. If you think he is worsening or think he is having difficulty urinating, I would strongly recommend having the veterinarian recheck Monty to ensure he does not have a urinary tract obstruction. I would make sure a urine sample is tested and his bladder is palpated to check if he is not blocked. If he is blocked this can cause serious pain and can cause kidney failure and death if not treated properly. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
