My dog's face is swollen and itching. What can I do at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 24 days old

My dog had his regular fish souo this afternoon and suddenly started itching his eyes, i was thinking the pepper got into his eyes but before i knew it his whole face wace bulging out, his mouth, his nose area, his eyes. Please i really need help, we are hours away from any vet now. I helped by putting ice on the swollen areas which i think has helped a bit but he keeps shaking his head vigourously. I just lost a dog, I don't want to loose another, i need help.

It looks as if Simba is having an allergic reaction to something. If you are unable to get Simba to a vet for treatment you can try to give him some benedryl, at a dose of 1mg/pound. This may help decrease the swelling and help stop the reaction. If Simba begins to have trouble breathing, starts vomiting or having diarrhea, this means that the allergic reaction is more severe and he will need to be seen by a vet immediately. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
