Licking the lips and pawing at the mouths area can be a sign of nausea or a sign of a problem in the mouth cavity. if the issue does not resolve within 24 hours i would recommend taking her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.

Constant licking of the lips is usually either a sign of nausea or a sign of dental disease, you should take him to the vet and get it checked, first the mouth then if nothing is found a blood test to try and discover what could be causing the nausea.

Hello. Pets don’t normally paw at their face due to routine teething unless there is some significant discomfort with it and that would be abnormal. It would be best to try to determine if she has something else going on or some source of pain. You can try to look yourself but it can be difficult to do . It is important to look closely at the roof of the mouth and you may require some help or a veterinarian to examine her.

It sounds like Scooby could have a problem with his mouth - he may have a wound or a growth that's bothering him, or a bad tooth. Often cats with problem teeth will continue to eat even with severe lesions that are obviously painful. Licking the lips frequently could also be a sign of nausea. I would recommend making an appointment with your vet for a complete oral examination.

This may indicate a bad tooth or an infection in her mouth or gums. Since she is drooling and not grooming herself this can be a sign of pain. You vet can exam her gums and teeth and check from growths or ulcers and do blood work to make sure there is not a virus causing this.

Very concerned about my new kitten who started foaming at the mouth on his 2nd day home. I took him to the emergency vet today where he was given fluids & anti-nausea meds. They did blood work & an X-ray but couldn’t define a cause. I’m home with him

Poor kitten! Excessive drooling like that can definitely be caused by nausea, as well as irritation of the mouth, throat, nose, or stomach. Getting into something potentially toxic or bad tasting, flea and tick treatments for dogs accidentally used on cats, or underlying illness can also cause foaming like this. I would definitely take him to another vet ASAP since it is so severe.

I don't think I would be overly concerned but cats do often try to tell us something with subtle behavior changes. If she had a tooth removed a few months ago it may be related to that. It could be allergies. It could be the beginning of an upper respiratory issue. I suggest you start her on a lysine supplement to help boost her immune system and monitor her. It could be that Luna has a tooth infection or sore in her mouth that is causing pain and causing her to lick around her mouth. Licking is also a sign a nausea. My advice would be to take Luna in to see her veterinarian for an exam and oral exam to check for tooth issues or other problems with her mouth. Your vet may recommend blood work and anti-nausea medications if nausea is suspected. I hope this helps!

Every night before bed time as she's getting comfortable she starts licking her lips for no reason & then just goes to sleep. It's always only before bedtime. Is this normal? Why does she do this?

It may be a normal "quirk" for Precious. However, nausea and dental disease can also cause them to lick their lips. If she's not having any other symptoms like vomiting or poor appetite, then you could continue to monitor her. If she hasn't seen a vet recently, it would be a good idea to have a through exam done by a veterinarian to see if she has dental disease or look for any other medical reasons she might be doing this.

Coco may have a systemic disease or infection going on that needs antibiotic therapy.
