My small dog ate onion seasoning on popcorn. Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 6 years and 11 months old | 6.4 lbs

Hello. I have a 6.4lbs chihuahua and she ate a very small piece of popcorn with sour cream and onion popcorn seasoning from Kernels. The popcorn piece was no larger than a pencil eraser and the piece didn't have much of the seasoning on it. I did my research and the seasoning had onion powder in the ingredients list and about how much onion can kill a dog (about 0.5% of its weight). Do I need to see a vet asap or will my dog be okay?

Hello, onion toxicity can cause anemia in both pets and humans. They need to consume a large amount of onion to have evidence of anemia. More likely, pets may develop GI signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, and a decreased appetite. The amount of onion powder in the sauce is likely not enough to cause any severe side effects to Par. You can be more certain about this by calling the Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 and giving them the information about the ingredients and the quantity Par ingested. Hope this helps and best of luck.
