Why is my puppy hacking and vomiting white foam for 8 hours?

My puppy is 5 months old and has been hacking and vomiting white foamy mucus off and on for about 8 hr. Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Female | spayed | 4 months and 29 days old | 17 lbs

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Eclaire! It sounds like Eclaire is coughing with a terminal retch. Dogs can cough so hard it stimulates their gag reflex and they can vomit up white foam and sometime even food and bile. Common causes of coughing in a young dog are: kennel cough, pneumonia, other viral infections. It is best to have Eclaire seen by a Vet for an exam. The vet will likely prescribe antibiotics and cough suppressants. I hope this helps and I wish Eclaire a speedy recovery!
