Ferret prednisone overdose: He seems fine, what should I watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Male | neutered | 7 years old | 1.82 lbs

I accidently gave 0.6 instead of 0.06 on an insulin syringe, of prednisone, to my ferret yesterday. He was just Diagnosed with insulinoma. He seems to be fine. He's eating, drinking, peeing, and having bowel movements normally.

You will need to monitor him, such an overdose is likely to cause gastrointestinal problems, possibly an ulcer in the stomach. i would recommend skipping the next couple doses of prednisone as well. if you see dark stools, bloody diarrhea, vomiting or severe lethargy you will need to take diamond to the vet ASAP.
