Hi, my has been loosing it's hair for 6 months now, on her neck, hair, legs, bottom, And even a bit on her back. We have did a scan at the vet to see if it was black skin disease and the tests said it wasn't. We tried salmon oil, it made no difference and didn't help. What should we do ? I would have her thyroid checked, if that is low, it can cause changes in hair coat. make sure they take a skin scraping for mange also and check for a yeast infection as these can cause hair loss and skin changes also. If all of those are normal you may not have a fixable problem. Some breeds such as Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, and dachshunds have a genetic condition known as alopecia X that can cause hair loss and thinning. It is genetic so there is no way to treat it
