My husky's spay incision looks infected again. Can I wait for the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 8 months and 15 days old | 45 lbs

My 8 month old husky was spayed September 28th. She had some complications with healing, redness, swelling and discharge so they gave us antibiotics for it. Now almost 3 months later the suture site looks infected again, red swollen lump with discharge. I’m definitely taking her back to the vet but they won’t be open again until Monday. Is it okay to wait until then? I’ve been putting a warm compress on it...thank you!

Hello, sorry to hear about Jenna. As long as she does not seem painful, is eating and drinking normally, is not lethargic then you can continue to wait until Monday. If she develops pain, has a decreased appetite, becomes lethargic, or the discharge becomes thick, green, and persistent then she should be evaluated sooner. In the interim place a cone on her so that she does not lick at the area and make the incision site worse. Jenna may need to have her incision revised by your veterinarian to remove any nidus of infection at the site. Hope this helps and best of luck.
