My dog has cold nose/ears, itching, not eating after hookworm meds. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 30 lbs

My dog was recently treated for hookworms and he is feeling a little better but I’ve noticed his nose and ears are very cold and he is itching a lot. He was given wormer at the vet and some flagyl to take at home twice a day. He is almost done with meds , he doesn’t eat very much but does drink water what should I do if anything or just give him time

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Dexter. The Flagyl, I assume, was prescribed to treat coccidia. Although skin reactions to this antibiotic have not been reported, nausea & appetite loss has been. So the itching may be for some other reason. If Dexter is still eating fairly well, stay the course for now & call your veterinarian Monday morning to discuss his symptoms & what additional treatments or medications may be required. Thank you.
