My dog has a puncture wound and a lump under her skin. Should I worry?

My dog randomly came home with a puncture wound on her left side in the flank area, it doesn't seem to bother her it's not bleeding i dont know if theres anything in it, when I squeeze it there is a egg shaped mass around it under the skin what should I do about it or what can I do for it, and how do I tell if there's anything in it?

Hello, sorry to hear about Babe. I agree with you it doesn't look like it is bleeding and I could potentially be seeing something in the hole. The area appears to be quite deep and my biggest concern would be that it is going into her abdomen. This wound should be checked and managed by your veterinarian tonight to reduce the risk of an infection, especially if the wound is recent. If it is going into her abdomen, then she may need to have further diagnostics to exclude a foreign object within her abdomen. Depending on how old your veterinarian thinks this wound may be, they may chose to manage it as an open wound or close it with stitches. Hope this helps and best of luck.
