My chinchilla has hair loss near a healing dog bite. Is it ringworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Female | unspayed | 6 years old | 1.1 lbs

My chinchilla got a small bite from a dog about five days ago. She seemed to be fine and healthy and I cleaned the cut she received on her back. Today I notice that about an inch or so above the cut (that is now starting to heal) she is missing a patch of hair. At first I thought maybe she was trying to itvh at the cut and could not reach it but I read that there is a thing call ring worm and now I'm super worried it could be that, though I don't think it looks like that. Any help would be great

Hello. Your picture does not show any indication of ringworm, which is usually a red, crusty lesion. I believe this is related to her original injury. Continue cleaning & treating the area & if things are not looking better by Monday, please consult your veterinarian who may recommend further treatments or medications for Nova. Thank you.
